Taking place on 6th February, the theme for this year’s event is “Inspiring change, making a difference, managing influence and navigating change online”. The day will focus on the following topics, which were identified in consultation with young people across the UK:
- Young people’s perspective on new and emerging technology
- Using the internet to make change for the better
- The changes young people want to see online
- The things that can influence and change the way young people think, feel and act online and offline.
Resources including quizzes and videos are available via the UK Safer Internet Centre’s website.
Our message on this day will be to encourage parents and carers to have conversations with their child about their online activity.
Talking to a child about what they do online is just as important as asking where they are going when they go out with their friends. It can be difficult starting the conversation so we will be sign posting to helpful advice for parents and carers. Having honest and open conversations with a child about their online activity will mean that they will be more likely to speak out if they have concerns.
Please support the day by reposting out messages on X and Facebook and using #starttheconversation
