Foetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder

The aim of this session is to have an understanding of the effects of drinking alcohol in pregnancy, to the foetus and on the neonate, focusing on -

  • Prevalence of drinking in pregnancy and FASD
  • Effects of drinking alcohol during pregnancy to the woman, baby and the family
  • Signs and symptoms of FASD
  • Management and treatment during pregnancy and the postpartum period
  • Ongoing support and strategies

This 90 minute briefing will be delivered by practitioners from Addictions Plus – Pregnancy and Parenting.


Participants must have completed Introduction to Safeguarding Children and Young People (or their in-house equivalent) before they can access this training. Please check Which training is right for me? for more guidance

The briefing is free to access for all delegates however, all delegates from any agency will be charged £25 for non-attendance at the live session. We will therefore require billing details from all delegates registering for the course.

Delivery method

This briefing will be delivered live on MS Teams. Delegates will be asked to mute microphones on entry but will be invited to unmute to ask questions or contribute to discussions. Delegates will also be encouraged to use the chat function to ask questions and they may choose whether they have their cameras on or off throughout the session.
